Acceptance
By submitting a contact form, telephoning the workshop, visiting in person or leaving a watch in our care, you confirm that you:
- Have read and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
- Are aged 18 or over, or have the authority of a parent or guardian.
- Are the legal owner of the watch, or have been given express authority to authorise service work on it.
Services Provided
Mainspring provides the following services:
- Battery & Seal Refresh — battery replacement, gasket inspection and basic water-resistance check for quartz watches.
- Movement Overhaul — full disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, worn-part replacement and regulation for mechanical watches.
- Vintage Revival & Documentation — comprehensive restoration with period-appropriate parts, sympathetic cosmetic care and full photographic and written documentation.
All services are carried out in-house at the Chiang Mai workshop. We do not send watches to third parties for servicing without your explicit knowledge and agreement.
Service availability is subject to the nature of the watch and the availability of parts. If a service cannot be carried out as described, we will inform you promptly.
Service Booking and Process
- All services begin with an intake examination. No work is carried out before a written Service Plan is shared with you and your agreement is obtained.
- Turnaround times provided are estimates only. Where a delay occurs, we will inform you.
- If examination reveals a requirement for additional work beyond the agreed scope, we will contact you before proceeding. No additional charges are applied without your agreement.
- You may withdraw from a service at any point before work commences. If work has already begun, a partial charge reflecting work completed may apply.
Client Responsibilities
- You are responsible for informing us of any known faults, modifications or prior service work on the watch at the time of intake.
- You are responsible for collecting the watch promptly once we notify you that it is ready. We will store completed watches for a reasonable period, after which a storage charge may apply.
- You must provide accurate contact information so we can reach you during the service process.
- Use of the website is for lawful enquiry purposes only. You must not attempt to access systems, submit harmful content or misrepresent your identity.
Pricing and Payment
- Published service prices are in Thai Baht (฿) and cover workshop labour only. Parts are charged at cost and itemised separately on the invoice.
- A written price estimate will be provided before any work begins. The final invoice will not exceed the agreed estimate without your prior approval.
- Payment is due in full upon collection of the watch. We accept payment in cash (Thai Baht) and by bank transfer. Accepted methods will be confirmed at intake.
- Watches will not be released until payment is received in full.
- If you decline to proceed after examination, a small assessment fee may apply to cover the cost of the examination. This will be communicated to you at intake.
Care of Your Watch
- We take reasonable care of all items entrusted to us. Watches are stored securely when not on the workbench.
- Condition on arrival is recorded at intake. Any pre-existing damage will be noted so there is no ambiguity on return.
- We carry appropriate workshop insurance. However, our liability for loss or damage is limited as described in Section 10 below.
- We recommend keeping proof of ownership for high-value items. We may ask for documentation for pieces of significant value.
Intellectual Property
All content on the Mainspring website — including text, images, design and layout — is owned by or licensed to Mainspring. You may not copy, reproduce or distribute it without permission.
Photographs and documentation produced as part of the Vintage Revival & Documentation service are provided to the client as part of that service. Mainspring retains the right to use anonymised photographs of completed projects for its own portfolio purposes, unless you inform us in writing at intake that you prefer your project not to be referenced.
Disclaimers
- Watch servicing restores a movement to good working order but does not remove all effects of age. We do not represent that serviced watches will perform to factory-new specifications.
- Vintage and antique watches may contain components that are difficult or impossible to source. We will inform you of this during assessment.
- Information on the website is provided in good faith. It does not constitute professional advice and we are not liable for decisions made based on it.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Thai law:
- Mainspring's total liability for any claim arising from a service shall not exceed the amount paid for that service.
- We are not liable for indirect, consequential or incidental losses, including loss of sentimental value.
- We are not liable for damage arising from pre-existing faults or undisclosed prior work not identified at intake.
- We are not liable for delays or non-performance caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
Ending the Agreement
Either party may end the service arrangement before work commences without obligation. If work has begun:
- You may request your watch back at any time. A charge reflecting work completed to that point will apply.
- We may decline to continue if we discover the watch was not legally yours to submit, or if you have misrepresented material facts about it.
Sections 9, 10, 12 and 13 survive termination of this agreement.
Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the services provided shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand.
We encourage you to contact us in the first instance to resolve any concern informally before resorting to formal proceedings. Most issues can be addressed promptly through direct conversation.
Updates to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with the date it was last updated. For services already in progress, the terms in effect at the time of intake apply unless you expressly agree otherwise.
